The Salisbury Society began back in October 1979 when a small group of
fifteen people met to consider forming an association of local artists.
For many years, the Society struggled to find a permanent home, finding temporary placements in Church halls, Schools, Kindergardens, even private homes. We finally settled in the Salisbury Institute on 4 May 1982.
The Society became an incorporated body with its Constitution in 1986, also taking part in the Jubilee 150 Celebrations that year.
Then in 2024 we welcomed in a new era with our move to the Salisbury East Neighbourhood Centre.

The aims of the Society are to foster art in general and to promote painting and drawing, in particular in the Northern area.
Membership is open to anyone interested in visual arts whether already skilled or just beginning.
The Society is under the direction of a committee who are elected from our annual general meeting in November each year.
Working together in the Society you will find support, instruction and fellowship. You have a place to learn new skills and expand your interest in Art no matter what medium you work in, and have the opportunity to exhibit and display your works.
